Some moments feel like pure magic. I spend a lot of time out on the trails or driving around looking for reference photos for my next favorite painting subject. Sunshine is always my favorite muse. There is something wonderful about the way she glows through a sumac leaf or catches the edge of fur creating a glow on a backlit chipmunk. There is something about the cooler, crisper days of fall that creates a light that seems crystal clear.
“Sunshine Magic” happened on a day just like that. The reflection of the sun on the water was so bright that day that I almost didn’t see the swans. I grabbed my camera and took photo after photo of these majestic beauties as they gracefully seemed to dance across the water, twirling and swaying in the soft fall breeze. I usually only get a short opportunity to capture a moment with my camera but this day was different. When I came home I had so many different poses and positions to choose from for my composition. I knew I wanted this piece to be a large one.
I am delighted to offer my newsletter subscribers, a sneak peek of my latest painting, before I share it with my followers on social media later in the week.
