Foley Mountain in Westport is a great place to see the hanging mosses that we have in the area. My favourite part of moss is the sporophyte stage. That is when the bright orange parts stick up out of the green moss. It is delightful to paint and I love creating that glow they have in the sunlight. Moss just has a friendly feel to me so it naturally goes well with the ever-social chickadee. Perched on an old cedar tree the chickadee happily goes about his business, not bothered by me, but actually enjoying my company. Perhaps it is the handful of seeds I brought with me.
