I was hiking through a popular spot in our area when I noticed a weird clump way up in a white pine. I couldn't tell what it was with the naked eye but was pleasantly surprised too see this beautiful barred owl through my camera lense. I backed up quite a bit to get a better angle. A family walked by on the trail with a fairly chatty young child. I was amused, but the owl was not so much.
There are many places that people go and owls are frequent visitors or live there. They are great places to show children wildlife and expose them to their natural world. These places can be wonderful teaching tools, and a great way to nurture nature loving and wildlife appreciating young humans.
I noticed the owl didn't mind people walking by but started to get stressed about the fact that I was hanging around. I snapped a few shots and moved on.
What a special gift, and a magical Afternoon.
